Care notes

Three bold horizontal black stripes give this species its name. Males display vivid blue-green with red in fins; females yellow when breeding. One of the more challenging Apistogramma — needs very soft acidic water. Cave spawner. Sensitive to water quality — not ideal for beginners. Beautiful biotope fish.

Check the whole aquarium. Tank size alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm adult size, water overlap, social grouping, territory, diet, and the individual animals before stocking.
