Care notes

L018/L081/L177 depending on spot size. Striking black body with large gold spots and gold-edged fins. One of the most sought-after plecos. Needs warm, well-oxygenated, acidic water. Territorial with conspecifics — one per tank unless very large. Requires driftwood. Wild-caught specimens are difficult; captive-bred adapt better.

Check the whole aquarium. Tank size alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm adult size, water overlap, social grouping, territory, diet, and the individual animals before stocking.
