Care notes

Striking yellow and red body with horizontal black stripe and iridescent blue-green scales. Females are particularly brilliantly colored when breeding. Aggressive toward tankmates. Pairs are excellent parents — both guard eggs and fry viciously. Underrated species in the cichlid hobby. Hardy and easy to breed.

Check the whole aquarium. Tank size alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm adult size, water overlap, social grouping, territory, diet, and the individual animals before stocking.
