Also called 'Earth-eating Demon Fish' or 'Demon Eartheater' (Satanoperca = Satan's perch in Latin — misleading, as it is peaceful!). Constantly sifts sand through gills. Metallic green spots on brown body. Mouthbrooder. Very peaceful despite imposing common name. Needs soft acidic water and fine sand.
Check the whole aquarium. Tank size alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm adult size, water overlap, social grouping, territory, diet, and the individual animals before stocking.
