Care notes

Juveniles are stunning black with white polka dots; adults develop a yellow or white band. One of the most challenging and rewarding cichlids. Must be kept in large groups (10–15+) to spread aggression. Extremely sensitive to diet — any high-protein food causes fatal bloat. Dedicated keepers only. Mouthbrooder.
