Care notes

Large and robust Central American cichlid with attractive patterning. Males develop bright red coloring on belly when breeding. Part of the 'Vieja' genus (formerly grouped with Cichlasoma). Hardy and adaptable. 'Marbled Fenestrata' is a captive-developed color form. Strong digger — use heavy rocks only.
